TOKYO: The Arab world’s first Arab space mission was launched on Monday from Japan, with the “Hope” to success separating from the rocket about an hour after takeoff.

A live broadcast of the launch showed the rocket carrying the unmanned missile, known as “Al-Amal” in Arabic, take off from the Tanegashima Space Centre in southern Japan at 6:58 am local time (2158 GMT).

Almost exactly one hour later, the broadcast showed people from the Japanese control room as the object successfully reached its destination.

In Dubai, the launch was met with super excitement, with the UAE Mars mission’s deputy project manager Sarah Al-Amiri declaring it “an excitement feeling” to see the object blasting off.
